If you are buying several different gifts for Christmas hoping that the person will like them, then this article is for you. Learn how to buy something they want, or better yet, get them a gift card and spend the rest of the day enjoying time together.

Each year Holiday spending gets more and more excessive. Everyone says that Christmas will be different next year but it will be the same boring holiday. It’s fun to receive gifts, especially when you’re a kid, but as adults, do we really need to go bonkers in the mall each year?

The obstacle occurs, because everyone has different tastes. According to theory, you increase the odds someone will be pleased when you buy a large amount of stuff for them. If you really want to go all out for someone, then do some research first. Check with people who know what they want and need. Asking very specific questions throughout the year will aid you in finding the perfect gift. This will hopefully stop you from buying those useless gadgets and trinkets. Gift cards are always an option, when every other idea seems likely to fail. You can personalize these with a few home-baked cookies or ornaments, or with a personalized card that lets them know that you wanted them to have the last say about their gift. The point is that spending all day surrounded by presents is no match for the gift of family and friends being together.

A lot of people feel that gift cards are not personal, but of you think about it, you realize that giving a friend something he or she doesnt like or need is not personal either. Gift cards are a terrific last-minute idea if your inquiries didn’t result in any answers. Most of the time people don’t know what they want, or won’t answer if they do. There are plenty of ways to please this group, too. Here is a great site for some unique gifts for everyone.

Mind-body medicine focuses on the interactions between the brain, mind, body, and behavior, and on the powerful ways in which emotional, mental, social, spiritual, and behavioral factors can directly affect health.

Instead of setting a bone or taking a medication, mind body medicine focuses on strategies that are are thought to promote health, such as relaxation, hypnosis, visual imagery, meditation. {April 10, 2008}   Tips For Avoiding Back Pain While Golfing

Most golfers will at some time or another experience back pain
due to playing. For many golfers this could be a one-time thing.
They make a swing and some muscle takes it wrong and the result
is a painful back for a day or so. But for other golfers back
pain becomes a routine and if it gets bad enough they stop
playing altogether.

Here are some tips that can help you avoid back pain:

Make sure your equipment fits you. If you’re a six-foot tall
player and you are using clubs that were designed for a
five-foot player, you are going to have back problems. The
reason is simple and obvious. You have to adjust your body too
much to get into the proper stance and grip with the smaller
clubs. The same holds true in reverse. If you’rea a small person
and you’re using clubs designed for someone much taller, you,
too, will have to contort your body just to get a swing out of
yourself. So, make sure your clubs are sized for your size.

It is always a good idea to begin and end your game with some
quality stretches. These should be designed to stretch all of
your muscles but especially those trunck muscles.

Men are considered stronger than women, but women are considered
more flexible than men. Even so, women should also do a set of
stretching before they tee off.

If you are older or if you have some arthritis in your hands,
consider buying grips made especially for those with hand muscle
problems. You may have to do some shopping to find them, but
it’s worth the effort.

Every third or fourth hole, take a few practice swings with your
opposite hand. This will help keep your muscles balanced and
fluid.

Often overlooked is hydration. Make sure you drink lots of water
during your play. This is even more important on those hot days.
Keeping your body hydrated will go a long way in reducing pain
both during and after your game.

If you still have pain, visit a doctor and see if there is
something else going on with your muscles.

{April 05, 2008}   Hamburg Germany — 5 Insider Tips

Hamburg has 1,734,000 inhabitants. They all want to have fun, excitement, and occupation. You too? Great! Then read on.

1. Speicherstadt

The historical Speicherstadt in Hamburg is the largest warehouse complex in the world, and one of Hamburg’s landmarks and indisputably sightseeing highlights.

The century-old Speicherstadt is located in the Free Port between the Deichtorhallen and Baumwall. It was built at the turn of the century in red brick, typical of northern Germany, with gabled roofs and small towers, which are beautifully reflected in the canals they border. And during night it’s even more beautiful, because buildings, bridges, and canals are lighted. The illumination makes the warehouse complex an impressing place of mystery and dream.

You should plan to go on a harbour tour to see all the details. There is a Captain. His name is “Pruesse,” and he takes off daily from the Landungsbruecken (landing stages). Inform yourself in advance if ebb and flow allow the tour, and when he does start.

2. Town Hall

The Hamburg Rathaus (Town Hall) was built 1886 - 1897 with a splendid sandstone construction in Neo-Renaissance style. After the Town Hall burnt to the ground in 1842, the town council moved into temporary quarters in the former orphanage, after that into the building of the Patriotische Gesellschaft. This temporary solution lasted over 55 years!

The new Rathaus was inaugurated in 1897. It stands on over 4000 oak posts. Very much in contrast to the Hanseatic style, the Town Hall gleams with an elaborately ornate faade which is graced by a total of 20 statues of the Kaiser. It dominates the city centre with its impressive architecture. It is the seat of the city senate and the municipality of Hamburg and has 647 rooms!

The grand banquet hall in the Rathaus is 46 metres long, 18 metres wide and 15 metres high. Five huge paintings depict the history of Hamburg from 800 to 1900. The three chandeliers, each with 278 bulbs, weigh 1500 kilos apiece!

3. Jungfernstieg

This story is amazing: In the old days, families went here for a walk on Sundays and brought out their unmarried daughters (Jungfer - virgin)!

The Jungfernstieg is still something very special, not only because of its ideal situation on the banks of the Alster Lake. For Hamburg residents, it is above all the historic importance of the promenade which plays a significant role.

Today, everything here revolves around shopping in big department stores and luxury boutiques. The famous Alsterhaus and places full of tradition such as Streit’s cinema are also worth seeing. And if you are hungry or just want a refreshment, you can go to the Alsterpavillion. Sit down, watch other people, and relax. Amazing.

4. Fischmarkt

The Fischmarkt is not only famous here in Germany but in the entire world. When you are there you will know why. We call them “Marktschreier,” or Market Screamer. Men and women who has an ostentatious job. All the time. Their entire life.

You can watch them every Sunday morning from 5 to 9.30 a.m. (7 to 9.30 a.m. from Nov. 16.th to Mar. 14th). Since 1703, customers come from near and far to bargain with vendors praising wares of virtually every type at Hamburg’s oldest, most traditional open-air market

5. Landungsbruecken (Waterway Station)

The 700 metre-long floating dock at the underground station Landungsbrcken is Hamburg’s waterway station. This is where harbour tours start.

The first Landungsbrcken were built in 1839 and served as moorings for steamers. They were erected at the edge of the harbour because it was possible to load coal there, which they needed for their engines. Since they sailed with stoked fires onboard, they posed a cauldron of dangers for the harbour. Another reason for the erection of the Landungsbrcken for the steamers at the harbour’s edge.

From 1907 to 1909, an entire waterway station grew out of the first Landungsbrcken. In the Second World War, the Landungsbrcken were seriously damaged. The moving pontoons of today have existed since being rebuilt between 1953 and 1955.

Today, colourful souvenir shops offer waterfront memories to buy, and cosy fish restaurants serve as much fresh plaice or North Sea shrimps as you can eat. The tower on the eastern side indicates the water level as well as the time, and the ship’s bell tolls every half an hour.

So, that’s it. Would you like to get 4 additional tips? Would you like to see photos? Okay, just visit http://www.smart-travel-germany.com/hamburg.html for more tips!

{April 03, 2008}   Treasure Hunting to Relax

Whenever I am stressed from work, I don’t watch TV nor read a
book. Instead, I look at that dark corner - the place where my
metal detector resides - and emerge into another world. This is
a world full of treasures to be found - where the limit is not
the ground, but many inches underneath.

Many people do not realize this, but metal detection is not only
a great way to do exercise, but it is also fun, relaxing and
rewarding. It is enough for one to “get lost” for a couple of
hours to completely forget about his problems while asking
himself the question, “What will I find next?”

The most common question, I, as a veteran treasure hunter have
to respond is whether treasures can be found in the United
States. The answer is, and will always be: Yes! Treasures are
practically everywhere. During the American Depression, how many
people did not bury their belongings to never come back for
them? During the Civil War, along the way; how many soldiers
buried gold but died in combat? How many people drop valuable
objects every day without realizing it? This does not only apply
to the United States, but also to almost every other country in
the World. Obviously, to know this, you’d have to do research,
but I am quite sure that you will find treasures if you look for
them.

Speaking personally, I do not call metal detecting a hobby, but
rather an obsession. I have been an avid hunter for years - have
hunted in Mexico, the U.S., Norway and many other countries. I
have delved into each country’s history and the reality is that
you can too. There are so many treasures waiting to be found
that all you have to do is purchase a metal detector - read some
safety tips such as the ones available in this great Metal Detecting
Website - and, well, begin your hunt!

I can almost guarantee that you will promptly love to find new
buried objects - objects which have been buried underneath your
feet - objects which may change the way History is known -
objects which may change your life.

Then what could be more rewarding than, after a 3-hour hunt,
count and research about the numerous coins that you just found?
Will you post them on your own personal page? Will you sell
them? Tell people about them?

We return to the beginning - relaxation. If it wasn’t for the
fact that metal detecting can cleanse one’s problems, then it
wouldn’t be half as popular. When you begin finding 300-year old
coins I can guarantee that you will stop thinking about your
quotidian problems and, like me, emerge into a world which has
been lost for years. Welcome to treasure hunting, you will like
it.
