{May 05, 2011}   The Get-Go

There are a lot of packages which may be picked up on the net that establish a web-site for non technical customers. By and large, the sole requirement of the customer is to get the domain name submitted.
With these applications, you may choose to pick up add ons to develop the website as you please.
You can pick different colors and templates to meet your company’s business requirements.
You could add a blog-page so you are able to upload articles as frequently as you want and you should be up-and-running in a fairly short time without dealing with a website designer or web dev directly.

Any company hoping to prosper in its business environment ought to have a web site to be in with a chance to be reached by possible consumers. Websites come in all shapes and sizes now but there are some widely utilised features which contribute to whether a website is a success.

If you want to build a website to retail goods, the design is different from a site that solely contains content.
The sort of basic layout you will need to have may well be very different and the quantity of sections would typically be much higher. Every item on a commercial site would ordinarily get its own page wherein the product details are listed. In the web-site plan, the product-page would connect upward to the field page where comparable products are shown.
There should be a picture of the item such that consumers are able to readily see what the product is like.
If you are contemplating starting up a retail site to use an affiliate feed with many products, take a peek at Product Wave where you are able to form websites with lots of available products in next to no time.

Web page design and web-site developing are not identical.
Generally web developers handle the behind-the-scenes factors which make the web site. They produce code to allow the website to work.
They handle stuff like paying structures on retail web-sites and they make sure that the website is search engine optimised.
Web designers, however, work on the look and ambiance of the website.
They produce a structure and logo. Lots of study has been carried out on which colors and which typefaces are most appealing to consumers, and consequently there’s a certain amount of uniformity between websites.

{March 23, 2010}   Are anti spam software ruining your home business?

Have you started or are you thinking in starting an online business?

I bet that you know that the bulk e-mail marketing technique it’s widely used on Internet, it’s free, it’s easy and it’s fast…

But on the long run it can cost you more than you will gain with it!

Many people identify bulk e-mail with spam. Spam used to be referred about posting or broadcasting ads to unrelated discussion groups, but now this term has grown meaning “any unsolicited e-mail” or “any email sent to people that didn’t ask for it”. And the Internet Service Providers are taking steps that can be very dangerous to your business if you decide to use bulk e-mail as your promotional tool.

If the people that receive your unsolicited e-mail, complaint to your ISP and or your virtual host service, you may end up loosing one or both of them. This means that your web site will be shut down, and you will lose your connection to the Internet.

Of course that you can get another ISP and virtual host server, but this will harm you in three ways:

* It will be a waist of time * It will cost you money * It will damage your reputation

So this free medium for online promotion, can be the source of too many problems, and the best that you can do, is to do not get involved with it.

But SPAM can give you problems…

EVEN WHEN YOU DON’T WANT TO SPAM!

And this brings us to our next topic…

FREE SPAM CHECKING

Let’s say that you’re about to mail out your e-zine…

You can’t have an idea of how many will actually REACH your subscribers and how many will get filtered, junked, trashed, or stomped by ISPs, HotMail, Yahoo! Mail, etc., along the way.

Why?

Simple answer… spam.

You know how important e-mail is to YOUR business, right? What if I told you 10%, 20%, maybe 50% or more of it is not getting through?

Spam has reached epidemic levels. So much so that ISPs have been forced to combat it with filtering software.

Alas, many legitimate marketers aare getting caught up and hurt, even though they are not the target.

Now, instead of JUST hoping for the best…

With our SpamCheck feature, you can know exactly what to do to reduce the “spamminess” of your e-zines and promotional e-mail!

As a result, you will know that your e-mail and newsletters are being delivered directly into INBOXES of your clients and affiliates…

…. and NOT into the Junk Mail Folder.

It’s no longer just enough to send the mail… You must be sure that you can reach the INBOX!

What should you do to protect your honest business from being recognized as spam when it is not?

Send your marketing letters and e-zine issues to my special autoresponder, and you will get a SpamCheck Report.

Even if you don’t have an ezine or newsletter you should check your email signature file!

Why?

Simple answer… the average marketing sig file can contain enough “spam triggers” to throw you into Yahoo! Mail’s Junk Mail folder.

STEPS TO SPAM CHECKING YOUR MARKETING TOOLS

Send an email to spamcheck-RB@sitesell.net with the word TEST (in caps, no quotes)preceding your subject in the Subject line.

I repeat, because it’s important… Start the subject line with… TEST …. or we assume it’s spam (since the spambots will add affiliate spamcheck addresses to their dirty databases), and follow up with your usual e-mail or ezine’s Subject

i.e. if your Subject is:

“The best home business”

you should write:

TEST “The best home business”

On the body of the email put your ezine’s issue content or your marketing email’s content

Send it to: spamcheck-RB@sitesell.net

And that’s it, that’s all there is to it!…

You will receive an Instant free spam-checking, and a free Report telling you the results. :-)

{November 10, 2009}   RSS Feeds

Lets face it as much as we all rely on email communications it is not really a reliable technology.

Why Should I care about RSS Feeds SPAM and viruses have wreaked havoc with a communication medium and reduced its value. Users have become admittedly paranoid about privacy issues and have begun “tuning out” and mentally filtering mail. What this means is that vendors really ought to begin exploring alternatives means of communciation in order to be heard. One of these alternatives is RSS or Really Simple Syndication.

While I’m not suggesting that you abandon email I think that many might want to consider RSS feeds as well. Because RSS Feeds are selected by the end user spam is not an issue. RSS is created using XML, a very basic markup language. One that does not contain the risks inherent to email.

Endusers select the feeds they wish to view. Content providers select the feeds they wish to display. By providing a RSS feed another site may pick up “news” about your software and post it. If email continues on a self destruct course RSS will become a new standard and an accepted viable alternative or more likely an email supplement. For now if you have a “technical” customer base RSS might be a “cool” thing to add.

What are RSS Feeds - In very simple non-technical terms RSS is an XML file containing a directory of web pages with related news or information. The RSS is contained in an XML file and referred to as a “feed”. RSS format is very simple, in fact even I was able to create a feed with little effort.

The XML file basically contains what would be commonly used as a title and description in an html document, along with the url of a web page containing the actual content.

Sample feeds can be seen at: http://www.softwaremarketingresource.com/feed.xml http://www.softwaremarketingresource.com/marketing-feed.xml http://www.notepage.net/feed.xml

Once uploaded to a website the feed should be validated (to make sure you did not use any invalid characters). The feed can then be submitted to engines. Individuals can view your content in a reader. Individuals can also add news feed to their websites by using an aggregator and tapping the feed of news vendors or others.

For convenience I’ve created a webpage with RSS resources at http://www.softwaremarketingresource.com/rss-feeds.html

{November 06, 2009}   Hosted Unwanted Message Filtering Means no Software Worries

Outsourcing your e-mail server and spam removal to a hosted solution reveals several gains

With rising volume of spam e-mails that drain a substantial amount of companies financial resources and eat bandwidth, outsourced hosted server could give them freedom from this headache and increase their productivity.

Internet is a necessity and an inevitable part of day-to-day activities but when it becomes a source of unsolicited junk e-mails or spam, then it could be very annoying and distressful to both the network administrators and those who own or manage a company.

Web spreads out widely and is now available for everybody in all age groups, which has a huge impact on the amount of spam mails and following that, an increased cost using time and resources to clear junk and ilegitimate mail from the mail boxes. It is very common to underestimate the cost of getting rid of spam - the reason is that is just takes a couple of seconds to remove one single spam e-mail. But when spam mails suddenly appear in hundres or thousands on a daily basis it becomes a serious problem - consuming time and users’ focus.

Junk mails are more than just irritating in their nature, they also put significant stress on the entire operation of a company because they occupy network and waste bandwidth. Every single spam message increases bandwidth cost - worst case spam consumes more than 48% of your entire network.

A slow and ineffective network hits all businesses - from the large companies the have their own dedicated team taking care of IT securiry to small businesses, that has a smaller budget for online protection. Furthermore, governments at all levels - local and regional - have tried to implement legislation aimed at spammers, unfortunately this has not helped fight spam sufficiently as spammers are able to continue their criminal activities using the latest and most advanced technologies.

Spam e-mailers have formed their own underground community equipped with networks of hosted computers and innovative attack methods. Analysis shows that spam drain both time and financial resources and organisations face security issues because they expose their internal network to e.g. malware, spyware and trojahns.

These online threats highlight the need of installing effective hosted spam mail solutions on mail servers to reduce operation costs and to protect networks from collapsing. Oursourcing all mail services can especialy help companies to remove the online threats caused by spam.

Outsourcing to a hosted service offers several pros e.g. the freed time that companies regain and the fact that you no longer need to handle any technical software, hardware, integration and maintenance issues. Qualified and skilled professionals keep round the clock watch on their systems and ensure complete elimination of spam before sending e-mails to their networks.

The responsibility removing all spam before it reaches the end users is now placed at the outsourced hosted mail server, and understanding the entire process is now much easier for less technical users.

Every single day 30,000,000 emails are sent around the world. 50% of those emails are spam. Blue chip companies and even Governments are taking drastic measures in spam control. The most recent evidence of this is the Canspam Act which was passed by the US Senate early in 2004.

If you look at what most people used the Internet for you’ll find the vast majority of online activity is sending and receiving email. Email has become the lifeblood of modern society. An interesting social experiment would be to see what happens to a group of young professional people who suddenly have all means of electronic communication taken away from them. Email has become as much a part of our lives as the electric lightbulb, air transport and mobile phones.

What happens if we don’t implement spam control globally? What would happen if all the mail server spam filters and regulations controlling spam were suddenly abolishesd? Chaos online! The online world would grind to a screeching halt as email servers become overloaded with the flood of spam. Global bandwidth would be consumed by as each spammer sends out hundreds of millions of junk emails per day.

Without spam control businesses would be crippled. Critical emails would be lost amongst a deluge of porn, viagra and breast enlargement type emails.

Without spam control home use of email and the Internet in general would suffer from massive delays in sending and receiving of email, a 100x increase in the amount of spam email received. Internet connection speeds would be adversely affected with ISPs struggling to keep their servers online while their bandwidth is being choked by spam.

IT analysts estimate that by 2006 the average internet user can expect to receive at least 1,500 pieces of spam per month. This is a conversative estimate. Agressive action is needed to stem the flood of spam. ISPs supporting spam must have their assests seized. Spammers must be prosecuted and their equipment confiscated. If we do not actively work to control spam then we only have ourselves to blame.

The Internet is a shared resource used by us all. Spam control must increase and improve in efficiency and effectiveness for us to retain control of our virtual lives.

{September 22, 2008}   Spasms & Spamocidal Mania

Below is a letter I wrote to the following organizations:

S.H.U. (Spam-Haters Unanimous)

N.A.A.P.W.H.S. (National Association for the Advancement of People Who Hate Spam)

P.W.H.P.W.D.H.S. (People Who Hate People Who Don’t Hate Spam)

P.F.W.S.H.I.A.L.C. (People for Whom Spam-Hating is a Lifestyle Choice)

S.A.P.W.R.R.R.H.S. (Society for the Advancement of People Who Really Really Really Hate Spam)

P.W.H.S.S.M.I.M.L.W.S.C.O.T.E. (People Who Hate Spam So Much It Makes Little Wisps of Steam Come Out of Their Ears)

And, of course: Spam Haters In The Business of Internet Resource Directory Services.

DEAR FELLOW SPAM HATERS,

I’m writing to suggest that we combine forces in order to present a common front in our righteous war on unsolicited commercial email:

Spam!

I suggest we disband the myriad sites and organizations now opposing unsolicited commercial email in order to form a single, unified organization:

The Spammish Inquisition!

And I further suggest we elect me, Linda Cox, as our leader. Our Grand Inquisatrix!

WHAT ARE MY QUALIFICATIONS?

You think YOU hate spam? You don’t even know what hate is!

I hate spam so much that I… well, just a LOT! That’s how much!

If I hated spam any more than I already do, I think my head would burst into flames and spin like a top! Can you say that?

Don’t think so.

I don’t mean to say that I don’t hate other things too, like pedophiles and nazis and that drunk guy who backed over my cat when I was seven.

But spam… hooboy!

SQUISH ‘EM LIKE BUGS!

I believe we should have a constitutional amendment allowing cruel and unusual punishment in the case of spammers. Maybe that tummy thing like the Japanese do when they get depressed.

As with drugs, mere possession of bulk emailing software should result in the immediate confiscation of the computer it was on, as well as any nice clothes, jewelry, or lawn statuary that might have been purchased with spam profits.

Just thinking about sending spam should be illegal, like joking about bombs in an airport. If I get to be Grand Inquisatrix, I’ll have my own force of men-in-black dudes to sniff out spamsters and be really mean to them and call them names until they promise to be good little netizens again.

It’s for their own good.

IN CLOSING…

Having looked at the websites of some of the anti-spam crusaders, I know that I am not alone in my revulsion, disgust and utter skin-crawling contempt for spam.

Like them, I have turned a blind-eye to more mundane problems like hunger, illiteracy, disease, country music and poverty so as to focus on the true menace ravaging our cyber-society.

If you wish to support my crusade, you may do so by sending me $99, and as a free gift I’ll send you a CD with the email addresses of 40 million netizens eagerly awaiting news of your latest product or service.

Linda Cox, G.I.W. (Grand Inquisatrix Wannabe)

P.S. Oh yeah… stale croutons.
