Not so long a go it appeared like gaming laptops were only procurable from certain brands and they were normally custom built. Even though they did not sell a great amount they still produced the most in comparison to other types of notebook. These popular notebooks were just too expensive. Had you been a power hungry user they were basically the best laptops you could buy. Despite the fact that was true I believe the prices were so high that we would buy laptop computers that were not so powerful instead. The primary manufacturers have recently begun taking advantage of massive opportunities in gaming laptops, so that is all altering.
Lowering prices are not common is this sector so global manufacturers can be scooping a lot of cash. These companies have probably been losing some money on standard systems so this should be an attractive opportunity. I am pretty confident that people would buy laptops if marketed to everybody by these global companies. Had I been a smaller reseller I would definitely be thinking of plans to react to this kind of competition. I believe once it becomes mass marketed it will not have the same appeal. Clearly the value of a familiar brand name comes into use here.
The notebooks are surprisingly really good too. In my view however, this is in fact a ray of hope for the local players in retail. On occasions the littler system builders can provide the newest components quicker and so provide faster specs too. These buyers have the technical know how and could conclude which products are best. For certain purchasers, the tech specs and performance may be way more important than style.
This can be pretty beneficial from the prospects view. I can predict a couple of price wars taking place in this sector later on. I am not really sure any of that will happen however. I guess technology is getting more better but the new laptops will normally remain highly priced. We will find out what we can expect from the gaming notebook markets large players.
The need for notebooks is shooting up as we speak. It looks like the poor manufacturers are also facing problems that could cause delays. Whatever happens in the market place this demand for laptop computers only seems to be growing. The amazing thing is that even when you get the latest thing out it’ll quickly be out of date.
A number of companies have been coming out with gaming laptops lately. If you’re a gamer with a limited budget the good thing is that you can get a gaming notebook a lot cheaper now because the average life is declining. In my opinion laptops are pretty good for gaming. Performance is far greater than it used to be. Some of the obstacles like heat and noise still exist to an extent but barely in the mainstream notebooks. The designs are also pretty thin. Ok so there still is a difference in speed no matter how great gaming laptops have become but that should always be there. Everybody always desires to extract insane amounts of speed from small packages so I would think thats where gaming laptops are headed.
Custom built laptops have been here for a long time now and despite international brands trading pre-built laptops through retail it seems like there will constantly be laptop builders out there prepared to assemble something specific to your needs. I feel the components are more respectable and operate better. It just allows the buyer added flexibility when it all boils down. Those notebooks available in retail are for usual activities. Power users require custom laptops for this reason. There is a large array of options for custom built laptops with system builders all giving a great personal service. I actually feel this is a major thing that goes in favour for buying a notebook thats built to .
I am actually awaiting to see what portables come to market next. Notebook computers purely for browsing the internet etc are being released in the market one after the other. The Eee PC just created a new specialist market. Supremely everybody would prefer an ultraslim laptop with a 15″ screen. Overlook speed and cost and we would already have this. Analysing the trends it seems like gaming laptops will become thinner and more powerful. What will be released next? Start utilizing your creativity.

Tree hugging is a thing of the past. It is not just about the trees anymore. It is about the air, the ocean, the earth, the ozone, the future. There are new concerns about the environment every day; it is a crisis unlike any other. You must care about the conditions under which the future generations will have to live, you must care about every aspect of the environment on the planet of which we live, and most importantly, you must care about fixing the problems that have already been created instead of simply making “Band-Aid” (Nering 352) solutions for these potential disasters.
However, this is coming from the heart and soul of a former six-year-old who aspired to save the planet and all of Her resources. A six-year-old who marched around the park next to her house on Earth Day alone with a homemade sign protesting pollution until the sun went down, and who is now witnessing the destruction of our planet by none other than those who claim to be working for the future of the world. It is a heart breaking experience. Now with the mind and body of an eighteen-year-old, and more conscious about the way global politics work, this environmentalist’s dream is rapidly becoming a universal nightmare. The need for environmental salvation is even more evident now, twelve years later, as new policies and bills are being proposed everyday to tap into the indispensable resources of the planet. The future of the planet resides in our hands.
We were once the future generation of the world, now we are the next generation. We will have to combat different obstacles than our parents did, and their parents did, ones that they did not dream of facing in their lifetime but threaten our well-being. The decisions of one generation impact the future generations. Do you want our children and grandchildren to play in fresh air playground, or toxic waste dumps? The future generations will pay monetarily for the mistakes that are made today as is already occurring with this generation. The increase in oil prices has skyrocketed, with prices as high as “56 bucks a barrel” (Stout). They will also pay in ways we cannot possibly comprehend at this point in time. Every action or inaction that we take in this generation will affect positively or negatively on the welfare of future generations. With a raise in air temperature, due to the increasingly gaping hole in the ozone layer, fertile land will begin to disappear, which will be the cause of the decrease in the cultivation of crops, and therefore create famine. So, how do we completely prevent such tragedies from occurring? At this stage in the world’s history, it is impossible to know. However, there are ways to diminish our affects on the planet as a whole, especially when it comes to the emissions of CO2 into the atmosphere and halt the expansion of this hole. If the human race continues at this rate of consumption of natural resources, and emission of pollution, we will kill the planet and any chance of a future for Her.
Bill McKibben, the author of The Environmental Issue from Hell, raises interesting points about the demise of our planet regarding her ability to maintain equilibrium. He expresses the validity of the argument that if we do not take care of the planet now, it will not be here for us to live on for very much longer. The deterioration of the planet at this rate will result in the unfathomable costs of our most prized natural wonders. The consequence of global warming will also come into fruition with the annihilation of marine life. The raise in oceanic temperatures will eradicate coral reef life by mid-century (McKibben 324), and also has begun to take its toll on Arctic animals, such as polar bears, who are “twenty percent scrawnier than they were a decade ago” (324) because there is an elimination of their food source due to the reduction of seals in the area. Seals are leaving the area because the warmer air temperatures is causing the ice to melt and ridding them of habitable space. “All in all, the 21st century seems poised to see extinctions at a rate not observed since the last big asteroid slammed into the planet. But this time the asteroid is us” (325). The depletion of natural forests, by deforestation, will also result in the drastic reduction of species by extinction, and eventually entire ecosystems. In this instance we are consciously exterminating entire species with a single order of lumber.
Another tragedy, as a result of global warming, is occurring that is affecting the human race, and not only the animal kingdom. With the widening of the hole in the ozone layer, which protects our planet from harmful rays of the sun, the heating of the surface of the earth is causing the polar icecaps to melt. This increase of water raises the water levels and floods the land. One such area is Bangladesh, in the Bay of Bengal, when in 1998 the floods from the Ganges and the Brahmaputra rivers were so great that the rice crop cannot be planted (324). As McKibben points out, this disaster could potentially create a nation-wide famine, which would pose a problem for the entire international community. “Global warming is a moral crisis, too, if you place any value on the rest of creation” (324).
What are humans doing to cause these self-imposed catastrophes? The answer lies in excessive consumption. Major industrialized nations cause most of the problems for the rest of the world. CO2 emissions from unnecessary entities, such as SUVs, cause the general populace to view pollution as an expected downside to their expected lifestyles. A
t the rate that humans are expending the planet’s oil reserves, the estimated period of time left before the oil wells run dry “is considerably less than 100 years” (Nering 352). The supply of oil in the world is not growing; it is a “mirage” (351) as the author of The Mirage of a Growing Fuel Supply, Evar D. Nering, explains. “Calculations also show that if consumption of an energy resource is allowed to grow at a steady 5 percent annual rate, a full doubling of the available supply will not be as effective as reducing that growth rate by halfto 2.5 percent” (352). Halving our consumption of oil may seem like an unrealistic goal, but taking many smaller steps towards the reduction of our usage will eventually lead to a beneficial impact on the planet. Nering goes on to say that “Reducing the growth of consumption means living closer to where we work or play. It means telecommuting. It means controlling population growth. It means shifting to renewable energy sources” (352). The solution to the earth’s salvation is not in discovering more oil wells because this is only a short-term solution, or a “Band Aid” (352), but rather in discovering renewable resources that can benefit the planet and future generations. These poignant remarks explain in terms of statistics and logic where we stand in terms of solutions for the betterment of our planet.
However, there are many who would rather view the current circumstances as otherwise, such as the current American senators who are aiming at uncovering a miracle well in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. This proposal to drill is contrary to the solution for the survival of our planet, but appears to be a lucrative business proposition for those involved.
Drilling into the land of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge would mean degrading the sentimental value that it holds to so many people of not solely the United States, but of the world. Jack Kelly, a reputable writer from Hawaii, weighs the losses and the gains of drilling in the Arctic in his article The Arctic Refuge; The Last Frontier. It is home to diverse ecosystems, breeding grounds for many species, and is altogether a gorgeous expanse of natural beauty. “Imagine multicolored fields of wildflowers as far as the eye can see beneath a backdrop of mountain peaks, under a sky so brilliantly blue it seems almost unreal. Melting snow feeds immense rivers that race down the mountain slopes and then quietly spread out on the coastal plain, eventually making their way to the sea” (Kelly 1).
Now imagine this scene with oil rigs, and disruptive piping; not as aesthetically beautiful. Allowing for the drilling in this area would not necessarily mean an endless supply of “Texas Tea” either, but more along the estimation of a “six months’ use in the United States” as determined by the U.S. Geological Survey (Kelly 1). The senators who are in favor of this bill are also claiming that since there is success in Alaska already in the Prudhoe Bay Area, there will be success elsewhere (Kelly 2). It is a contortion of facts by certain senators, and is creating a debate among the Senate. Specifically the two senators from Hawai’i are surprisingly endorsing this bill, though it will impede heavily on the nature of the Arctic and its wildlife, which the Senators Daniel Akaka and Daniel Inouye from Hawai’i, have always fought for in the past. It is tactics by legislators, such as this, that endorse the continual consumption of the natural resources of the planet, rather than supporting the scientific research needed to discover renewable energy. Though there may be successful drilling in the Prudhoe Bay Area, “the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has determined what might produce enough oil for six months’ use in the United States” (Kelly 1). The reason this oil would only last six months is because of the rapid rate of consumption that the United States currently employs, which corroborates Nering’s proposition of the necessity to halve the consumption rate of Americans. The Hawaiian Senators are typically environmental activists, but were persuaded to vote in favor of the bill. Their decision was crucial to the splitting of the votes, and will lead to the eventual drilling in the arctic.
Drilling in the Arctic National Reserves and global warming are only two examples of the ominous deterioration of the planet and Her reserves. If drastic measures are not taken immediately then the demise of the planet will be on our shoulders. The danger to our planet caused by humanity’s current ignorance will weigh heavily on the future generations. It is imperative that our course of action as responsible human beings be to save the planet. There is a looming necessity to change our actions to become more environmentally sound, and to save our planet from destruction. We must reconsider what our true impact on the earth is and how we can alter our actions, instead of simply waiting until it’s a problem for the next generation.
Having written this article as a Freshman at the University of Richmond, I am now a rising Sophomore and looking to continue my studies in Spanish and Business next year. This article is very important to me in that the topic is one that I have cared about my entire life and have struggled with getting other people to understand my passion about the environment. Wi-fi is a wireless data networking protocol, which allows for
PCs and laptops to access the internet, within a given area or
“hotspot”, via a high frequency wireless local area network
(WLAN). The term Wi-Fi was coined by the Wireless Ethernet
Compatibility Alliance (WECA) as another name for IEEE 802.11b
networking standard. WECA is still involved in certifying new
wireless modems in order to verify that they are fully
compatible with the standard.
Approximately 4 million people in the UK use ADSL with an extra 2 million using a cable connection, meaning 6 million people in the UK have an always-on internet connection. Of these over 1.7 million are subscribed to BT’s broadband package, making them the UK’s main broadband provider.
Back in August 2000 BT first launched its high-speed internet connection to customers. Initially only available to around one third of UK households and costing £500 a year it was the first step in many to Broadband Britain.
There are currently only 2 ways to connect to ADSL in the UK. Recently a technique called Local Loop Unbundling means you don’t need to have a BT phone line, but at the moment only 1% of people on broadband in the UK use this method. The only other way to connect transforms an existing BT phone line into a high-speed digital line. This is only available with a BT phone line though, so even if you don’t subscribe to BT’s package your ISP still has to pay BT money to maintain and connect your line. Because of this BT has been able to dictate the availability of broadband in the UK for a few years now.
For fear that UK telecoms watchdog Ofcom would break-up the company because they held a monopoly by owning all the phone lines and means to connect to broadband, BT has agreed to offer rival companies access to the “Local Loop”, which is the network of telephone lines around the country. By doing this BT could stand to lose many customers as other companies can offer their broadband directly and without having to pay BT expenses.
Since the introduction of ADSL in the UK many potential customers found their local exchanges were simply out of date and the lines too old to be able to handle this new technology. Campaigns run country-wide as BT will only upgrade exchanges if there is adequate interest. ADSL is still not available in many villages and more rural areas of Britain but BT is vastly expanding and upgrading its network to try and cover all the country, Broadband is currently available in more than 96.6% of all UK households.
BT’s standard package is 2Mbps with a 1 GB monthly download limit. This means you can only download 1 GB’s worth of content, be it WebPages, music or movies, a month. This is more than enough for typical WebPages, but excessive music downloads will result in your account being suspended or limited for the rest of the month. You can upgrade your broadband to a 15 GB monthly limit for a little extra a month. BT also offers Pay As You Go dialup and unlimited dialup contracts.
BT Broadband also offers a variety of packages and upgrades designed to suit every user. You can upgrade to a gaming account to play xbox and PS2 games online, you can setup parental filters for your children, and there’s protection against spam, junk mail, pop-ups, virus’s and online intruders.
One of the main reasons people will continue to signup to BT is its reliability. They have broken the mould of all ISPs having poor customer service and are incredibly helpful with setting up your connection.
BT are aiming to trail their 8Mbps connection soon, intending it to be in common use by the end of the year. BT’s ultimate goal is making broadband available throughout the country, including rural areas.

In this article I am going to present an insider’s view of this process. What you are about to read is the experience of an associate of mine. He is an MCSE, or at least he was. I’ll let him tell his story in his own words. You should find this interesting.
Hi. My name is Steven. I am 48 years old and out of work. That may seem strange considering that I have a number of certifications including a Novell CNA and a Microsoft MCSE. So what’s the problem?
To answer that question you need to have some background information.
I originally went to school for Accounting but lost interest. I eventually graduated with a degree in business, which at the time was good for nothing. Then my wife to be brought home an ad for computer training. This was long before Microsoft was big. We were still on DOS 3.0. Anyway, I went to school and learned COBOL and RPG. That did me a lot of good too because I had no experience and at the time these languages were already on their way out. I eventually did find a job but working on PCs. I worked on an Apple III.
This lead to a teaching position, teaching BASIC on TRS 80 computers. Eventually this died out too and I was out of work, yet again.
To make a very long story short, the cycle continued until networking became big. I got a Novell CNA and then eventually a Microsoft MCSE. I was set for life. Or so I thought. But let me back track just a little.
Before getting my MCSE I had to go through extensive training. The number of courses I had to take were mind boggling. The amount of information was mind boggling. I didn’t know how I was going to keep all of that in my head, let alone pass an exam on it.
Then the first exam came. I failed. I studied more and went to retake it. Much to my shock, the exam was almost completely different with probably 70% of the questions different. Yes, there is so much information in these exams that you can actually take one of them 3 times (which I had to do) and still not get a majority of the same questions twice. Finally though, I passed the first exam and then after a period of nine months I passed all seven. It was the most horrible time of my life. But at least I was set.
At least that’s what I thought.
At the time of the exam the system was Windows NT 3.51. If you know anything about computers and Microsoft you know that this particular operating system is long dead and buried. And as the changes came, I too became dead and buried.
Why?
To answer that question you have to understand how companies work. They always feel they have to have the latest technology, even though what they had was more than adequate to do the job. Part of this problem though is with Microsoft. They don’t support old systems. So companies are forced to upgrade. With that comes the forcing of employees to get recertified and learn the new systems. This is where I just couldn’t keep up. It was hard enough for me to pass the exams the first time. I wasn’t about to even try again.
Sure enough, my company wanted me to learn the new systems and get recertified. I asked them what would happen if I didn’t. They said they would have to let me go. I saved them the trouble. I quit.
I am telling you this story for a reason. If you are considering getting an MCSE certification you need to be prepared for exactly what happened to me, not just with losing my job if not getting recertified but the actual difficulties with the exams themselves. The amount of information is overwhelming and it won’t be easy to pass seven exams. Then be prepared to constantly have to upgrade your skills as Microsoft isn’t going to stop trying to make more money
