{November 03, 2008}   Torre Di Cesare in Maiori

Torre di Cesare is located on the coast about 3 km from the city of Maiori, on the Amalfi Coast. Maiori sits in the deepest inlet of the Amalfi coast, at the mouth of a river. Due to its location and the natural landscape, it boasts the larges beach of the Amalfi Coast.

During the middle ages, Maiori was the primary harbor of the Amalfi Republic, housing arsenals and military headquarters. It was surrounded by coastal fortifications, some of which remain today.
Torre di Cesare is a converted Saracen Tower which has dominated the Amalfi Coast for centuries, standing guard over the Mediterranean in perennial salute.

This property consists of two independent Villas and a 16th century Saracen Tower. The Tower sits on a sheer cliff above the sea, built to observe and prevent pirate raids and other invaders who once encroached upon this coastal paradise. Originally this area was almost inaccessible on land due to the protection of the insurmountable mountains looming behind. It is due to these geographical characteristics that this area of the Amalfi Coast has survived intact, and this villa complex is a perfect example. The grounds stretch from the panoramic coastal road down to the sea, following a delightful and perfectly-tended Mediterranean garden full of surprises, from the Jacuzzi tub high on a ledge above the sea to a sauna hidden behind a rock looking onto a pretty inlet. There is also a succession of panoramic terraces furnished with benches and tables made of valuable Vietri ceramics. A swimming pool with a Jacuzzi can be heated up to 30 degrees and the swimming pool can be enclosed in glass for winter use.

This defensive tower perched right on the cliffs near Maiori is the ideal Amalfi Coast villa rental for your group holiday, whether you’re traveling with family or friends. Wander up and down garden pathways in this Amalfi villa complex to find a secluded Jacuzzi, sauna, or steps down to the sea. Regardless of what season you arrive at this Amalfi Coast villa for rent, you’ll be able to use the pool: open air in the summer, it has a glass cover in the winter to hold in the warmth!

{August 17, 2008}   Your Cosmopolitan Property Market — Expedited by The PropertyIndex.com Company

Find a great portfolio of American properties here!

Albeit the Property Index service is a recent corporation, set up only in March 2007, they have established expert status very quickly. They’re a extremely incomplex corporation exclusively focused on servicing essentially anyone expecting to rent, buy, sell etc. real estate across the world. What they affirm is to help you out discover dead-on what you crave for very swiftly plus without hassle. Real estate is in most areas of the world now, unquestionably the elite area being properties on the market in the States. It should really be easy as ABC to catalogue the tremendous real estate you can purchase in the States, one reason for opting for real estate here being the houses and apartments available for sale and the possibility to live between this fervent and bubbly population.

It’s one of the truly fashionable countries now, and in view of the lovely landscape and the agreeable sunshine surrounding you, how could you conceivably go wrong… Real estate in the States is steeped in history, this area of the world has always been home to a good many sophisticated civilizations. Around twenty years ago you’d find very few of Englishmen who are looking for real estate in the States. Ask any one single person who has moved to the States and they will substantiate it. Many would tend to view it as a trend and others tend to view it as a that’s nearly an infatuation… Buyers interested in transferring to this place range from young working couples keen on an exciting life perspective to senior citizens meaning to chill out and enjoy themselves.

Note, however, that you are liable to encounter some bugbears when trying to purchase real estate abroad - you’ll learn that there are a hundred disparate procedures when budgeting, paying a visit or actually purchasing. Even if only a single step is missed it could trigger wide-ranging bugbears plus, of course, most importantly, financial damage. As you may have presumed with this popular area, real estate could be pricey in this place which is merely a consequence of the expanding market pressure. Despite this the buyer truly is spoilt for choice in a place so wonderful in terms of cheery site and phenomenal scenery. It can offer the whole enchilada a client could crave and more.

{June 08, 2008}   Preparing To Travel To Europe - Four Important To-Dos

You have your tickets, your hotel or vacation rental reservations, passports are up to date, and you are ready to go. Not yet! Here are four important things to add to your preparation list:

1. Prepare Your Bank

Exchanging money in Europe is usually easiest and least expensive through an automated teller machines in Europe. Be careful to withdraw using your bank ATM card rather than your credit card. If you use your credit card for withdrawing cash, you may find yourself taking out a high interest loan.

Must dos with your bank:

2. Safeguard Your Documents

Photocopy your passports and airline tickets and stick them in a few places in case something gets lost and you need to recover. Ensure some of those places are in your carry-ons.

A high tech way to keep track of your passport info and other important documents in case of loss is to scan them in and email the scanned document to yourself at an email address you can access from anywhere. For example, one of our guests in an apartment in Florence found herself locked out of her apartment, so she went to a nearby internet point, retrieved the electronic copy of her apartment information from her email and made the call to be let back in.

3. Buy a Good Map

If you are visiting only major cities, your guide books and the inexpensive maps you can obtain at tourist offices will be all you need. But, if you are driving, you need a good, detailed regional map.

If you wait till you get to the region you are visiting, I guarantee that you will waste time looking for your map and the only one you will be able to find for your region will be in Swedish. A map of the whole country is not detailed enough for driving, get a regional map.

4. Buy a New Guidebook

Be sure to take recently published guidebooks with you. Sights open and close, hours change, phone numbers change, and they move things around in museums. You will experience frustration and lose time if you take an old guidebook; take my word for it.

To avoid having to carry a whole book, pull out and take just the pages for the places you will visit. You can do this for the trip and for the day.

Don’t count on finding a good guidebook when you arrive. I find the English language guides published in non-English countries are often hard to read and filled with stuffy direct translations from the original language.

{June 03, 2008}   Where Books and History Intertwine: Charing Cross Road

A few years ago, while we were in London, I insisted that we visit the Charing Cross Road since books act like magnets to me. Having no other option, my husband had to agree half-heartedly.

Charing Cross Road is a London street that runs north from Trafalgar Square to St Giles’ Circus and then becomes Tottenham Court Road. Charing Cross Road is not just any street with bookstores, it is the street of bookstores in London, as each town should have one, and if it does, that street gets visited by me to the exclusion of any other sight.

My first impression of the Charing Cross Road, somehow, has to do with the way London’s traffic lights work. This may be because I first noticed their odd behavior while we were in the cab on the way to Charing Cross Road. The lights were red, green, and yellow as in the US, but when the yellow light came up before it turned green, red light remained; so, we ended up staring at red and yellow lights together. Maybe that’s the way things are destined to work on Charing Cross, together…yet apart.

On Charing Cross Road, bookstores stand side by side like wallflowers at a dance wearing different colors. Above them, acting like their chaperones, are old brick buildings. Maybe these are separate edifices, but they look as if they are of one massive structure because their bricks appear to be in similar colors showing the same age and practically the exact wear and tear. As little as I understand from architecture, I think, the long rectangular windows with white tops and tiny sills point to the same style.

If you go to the Charing Cross Road take the tube. You’ll save a lot of money. We could have taken the tube very easily, yet for some trivial reason, we didn’t.

That day, when the black taxicab left us at one corner, the reddish brown Zwemmers’ beckoned us to its large window, boasting art, film, and photography books, but we wandered nextdoor, into the store painted in blue. This was Al Hoda, an Islamic bookstore with quite an impressive selection of books on art and architecture of the Islamic world, plus other books pertaining to Middle-eastern culture.

Next to Al Hoda was Smith and Sons, an old-fashioned pipe and cigar shop in red. We looked through its window and wondered why people would spend so much time and energy, carving fancy figures on elephant tusks just to smoke dangerous stuff from them.

Next was the store where graphic, web, and commercial design books were sold. After that came Shipley Specialist art books and then Silver Moon Women’s bookshop. I wondered why they would erect a separate women’s bookshop. Were we being talked down to as if in a harem or were we being revered? I opted to choose the latter idea, since the books inside were not too different from those at any other store.

After that, adjacent to a shop called “Any Amount of Books,” stood “Henry Pordes Books” with a large white sign covering its whole faade. Next to it stood a used book store “Charing Cross Road Bookshop.” By the way, “antiquarian” and “Second hand books” are the names given to used books. They don’t call them used books.

The most interesting shop to me was the “Scot Centre” selling everything Scottish from books to pipes to tartans. After the Scot Centre, another used book store curved into the Great Newport St. I know all this because I wrote down the names of these stores in my tiny pad. Seeing me do this, some people in those stores gave me their cards and promised a discount if I ordered from them. How is it possible to hassle on book prices?

Inside the Scot Centre, an elderly, knowledgeable gentleman volunteered to enlighten us about Charing Cross’s history. Charing Cross was one of 12 “Eleanor Crosses” erected at the end of the thirteenth century by the grieving Edward I when his wife Queen Eleanor of Castile died.

At each place where Queen Eleanor’s funeral’s procession stopped for the night, Edward built a memorial cross in her honor. Charing Cross was one of them. Later, this cross was removed and replaced by the statue of Charles I. Much later, a replica of the cross was placed at the rail station. Since most of London was demolished either by fire or by Hitler’s bombers, many authentic looking structures or statues are only excellent replicas of what has been.

As to the name “Charing” there are many interpretations. The word could come from “cierring,” which means turning or bending, referring to the Thames River, but the most romantic one is “Chere Reine” meaning “Dear Queen.” Romantic? Yes, definitely so, for Charing Cross Road is a very romantic place, at least to a book lover like me.

{May 27, 2008}   New York Attractions

When you think New York, you imagine a city, full of taxis and blaring horns, right? Besides all of the skyscrapers, clubs and people in a giant city, New York has a whole other part to the state. New York is full of small towns, farmland and beautiful scenery that are often overlooked.

New York is home to many unique attractions, without having to load the kids up on the subway to tour. Here are some fun stops outside of the big city:

North Pole - No, you read that right. There is a North Pole in New York. It may seem like the North Pole since it is so close to the Canadian border, but it is in the New York boundaries. What is the North Pole without Santa’s Workshop? An amusement park by that name was built and opened in 1949 for kids to enjoy all year long. There are shows, gift shops, an arcade and costumed characters and a parade for all to see.

Albany - A giant statue of a white dog sits atop the RCA Building. He was placed there in 1954 and is named Nipper. Nipper has appeared as a real dog in versions of commercials for RCA on television. RCA has offices in Albany.

Oneida - Need a quick prayer to help get you through a family road trip? Stop in to Oneida, where the World’s smallest church is located. The church is actually a chapel, and sits on a small platform in a pond. It was built in 1989 and seats two people and a minister.

Jamestown - Lucille Balls hometown. There is a museum full of memories from her and Desi Arnaz’s life together. Her wedding dress, a hairbrush, TV set items and other personal effects are on display for the public. There is also a gift shop to take home little bits of Lucy history as souvenirs.

LeRoy - What’s that wiggling on your spoon? J-E-L-L-O? A museum dedicated to the history of Jell-O sits in LeRoy New York. It is full of all the promotions used by Jell-O in the past, as well as TV’s that constantly air commercials. Jell-O happened to be manufactured in the town of LeRoy for sixty four years.

Lake George - Does Uncle Sam have an overwhelming presence in your life? In Lake George, a 36 foot tall statue of Uncle Sam will make that feat a reality. The statue was built in honor of Samuel Wilson, who became known as Uncle Sam. He spent his adult life in Troy New York, and is buried there.

Cherry Valley - What is a vacation without buying a bunch of rubber tomahawks for the kids? Rubber tomahawks, in case you need a definition, is a term for cheesy, easily-falls-apart, memorabilia that the kids must have before going home. The TePee in Cherry Hill is full of such trinkets for every age. The fifty foot metal teepee replica signals to those highway bound - pull over! We have what you need to remember this vacation!

{May 23, 2008}   Homemade Christmas Gifts

Buying gifts for the holidays has become more of a chore than an expression of love and joy. Products that we purchase generally come right off the assembly line with little thought involved. We may give someone a gift that they already have - or a gift that someone else is giving as well. It’s time to go back to the old days when people made gifts to give at Christmas time. A homemade gift truly exemplifies the spirit of Christmas and shows how much you care.

Think about what you like to do in the way of hobbies. Is baking your forte? If so, bake to your heart’s content; put your goods in a gift-wrapped box, and you have a wonderful gift sure to please its recipients. If you like to knit, hats, scarves, slippers, etc. all make fabulous gifts. If you find it hard to be creative, there are kits that you can purchase giving step-by-step instructions to create a homemade piece. They include candles, pottery, stained glass ornaments, embroidery and scented soaps. Perhaps woodworking is your hobby. Who wouldn’t appreciate a homemade hat rack, knick- knack shelf or bookcase?

Let your children be creative as well. There are hundreds of homemade gifts they can create as gifts for the holidays. For older children, potholder kits, beads and paint-by-numbers are fun and easy to do. For younger children, a framed drawing using finger paint or crayons is truly a special gift.

Keep the true meaning of giving during the holidays alive and well. This Christmas make your gifts - you can bet they will be cherished throughout the coming years.

Christmas Gifts provides detailed information about christmas gift ideas, christmas gift baskets, homemade christmas gifts, corporate christmas gifts and more. Christmas Gifts is the sister site of Online Gift Cards.

Real estate investors and home buyers want to purchase homes in
York County because the nearly 200 miles of coastline along the
York River and its tributaries offers a desirable waterside
lifestyle, the county’s population is actively involved in the
community, the school district has an excellent reputation, and
real estate taxes are low. York County Virginia is bounded by
Williamsburg, Newport News, and James City County to the north
and west, Hampton to the south, and the York River to the east.
This means homeowners or home buyers in this area are centrally
located, and can commute nearly anywhere on the Peninsula with
ease. The Colonial Parkway, part of Colonial National Park, runs
through York County and connects the James River to the York
River. This 30 minute wooded drive along both rivers. links
Historic Jamestowne in Williamsburg to the battlefields of
Yorktown. The strong economy of York County is bolstered by the
Yorktown Naval Weapons Station and a Coast Guard station, both
which remain in operation even after numerous base closings
nationwide Riverwalk Landing in Yorktown Residents and visitors
to York County can now spend time relaxing along the riverfront
at Riverwalk Landing in Yorktown, a newly renovated retail
development and a park along the York River. Riverwalk Landing
combines colonial style architecture with an eclectic mix of
shops, a widened beach area, several restaurants, a performance
area, a two-tier parking garage with ample space, and two docks
- one that supports cruise and tall ships and another for
smaller personal watercraft. The locally famous Nick’s
Restaurant, an elegant seafood restaurant owned by a generous
Greek family who gifted some land to Yorktown, at one time
overlooked the York River nearby. Though Nick’s is gone, part of
the staff and manager continue the tradition of serving fine
food at the Duke of York Motor Hotel in Yorktown, in the River
Room. The restaurant still overlooks the waterfront, and has the
same quality and price of fare as the old Nick’s ($18.95-$35 per
entrée).

Rezoned Northern Sectors of York County Walmart and Lowe’s
recently opened new stores in northern York County, near the
borders of James City County and Williamsburg, who both declined
their offers to build. This has paved the way for rezoning part
of the surrounding area as commercial property. On the other
side of of the county, near Water Country U.S.A., a new 600,000
square foot upscale open-air shopping center, called
“Williamsburg Row” will house retail shops, restaurants, offices
and entertainment. Future plans call for a movie theater in
phase 2, but the actual scale of the development is still being
debated as of September 2005, because it is nearby three
historic sites. Premiere Properties of Indiana will undoubtedly
build this upscale commercial property in some form or fashion
and it will be open for business in several years. Read the
article in the Virginia Gazette for more information

y. All of this activity in York County bodes well for homebuyers
and home investors who purchase now, because home prices are
likely to increase as the area becomes even more popular. School
Districts Parents request homes in the York County School
district, and it lives up to its reputation. York County Schools
provide excellent athletic and academic programs. York County
Elementary Schools rank in the top 10% of elementary schools in
Virginia, according to figures from 2005. Grafton High School is
a brand new high school, and the newest of the York County High
Schools.

Water Country U.S.A. Water Country U.S.A., a nationally known
theme park with state of the art water rides for children and
adults is located in York County, near Williamsburg. For
homeowners or potential homebuyers in York County who may want
to take their children to Water Country U.S.A. on a regular
basis a seasonal passport ticket is available at a greatly
reduced rate.

Presidents Park The famed Presidents Park, showcases the busts
of 43 larger than life presidents and tells the story of Early
American history from the settlement of Jamestowne in 1607
forward. Presidents Park is an educational and fun exploration
of history, and is located right in York County. The museum
building on site houses classrooms, meeting rooms, a gift shop,
café, and banquet room.

When relocating to places like York County, parents will want
to consider the effect on their children’s lives and education.
York County is actually a wonderful location for a family to
purchase a home because of all of the family friendly
activities. If you prefer nearby Williamsburg, James City
County, or New Kent County, read some other articles I’ve
written on these locations at

consider West Point, just 20-30 miles away, a small town that
